Why this matters

This code block (called "structured data") is the single most direct way a site talks to AI about the business — it's the name, address, phone, hours, and what the business does, written in a format machines read perfectly. When it's broken, it's as if the client handed AI a business card with the ink smeared: it can't read a word of it, so it ignores the whole thing.

Hand this to whoever edits the code

Broken code needs someone comfortable editing code — this isn't an editor-settings fix. If that isn't you, send the client's web person this message:

Copy and send

"Hi — we checked the website for how well AI assistants can read it, and it found that the JSON-LD structured data block has a syntax error, so search engines and AI can't parse it at all.

Could you find the <script type="application/ld+json"> block in the page template, run it through a JSON validator (like jsonlint.com), and fix whatever's invalid — usually a missing comma, an unclosed bracket, or a stray quote character?

We'll re-run the scan after to confirm it's fixed. Thanks!"

Common causes

In our experience, it's almost always one of these: a missing comma between two lines, a quote mark that opens but never closes, or text pasted from Word that brought along curly "smart quotes". Any of these takes a web person a few minutes to fix once they look at it.

After the fix

Once the fix is live, run a new SERAVERRA scan. The metadata check re-reads the site's code block fresh each time.
